A Case Study
Creating a modern network from old systems
ITN (a TEFAL school) contacted us explaining that they were in
need of rebuilding their small network of Windows 95/98 machines
into a stable, coherent, Internet assessable network.
By establishing that they were an accredited academic institution as
defined by Microsoft, we were able to get discounted licences at a
price suitable to allow them to move right up to XP Professional.
Create a proper network with all the security requirements of a
modern office.
As there were fewer machines than teachers, we added roaming profiles.
This enabled users to log in at any machine to work on, not needing
to wait until 'their machine' became free!
ADSL broadband was added to the system, permitting the removal of a
second, dedicated Internet phone line. The savings on that, combined
with their Internet phone charges resulted in a small net gain financially
and an 'always on' service.
We have also arranged ongoing support, both telephone and on site.
Visiting two or three times a month, sometimes visiting their offices
out of hours to minimise disruption whilst we do OS and software updates.
Since then we have supplied a total of four additional machines as
they have expanded, and their business grown. We also supply e-mail
services for all members of staff not just a single office account
that they had to work with previously.
