Headboards Galore

A Case Study

A site designed for easy updates as products change

Headboards Galore had been trading for around five years, selling headboards by mail-order through adverts in national magazines. With a view to expand their customer base and cut down brochure costs, the owners of the company looked to the Internet.

They requested that we supply them with 'the works': a broadband connection, web-site, e-mail, domain registration and training. We arranged for ADSL to be supplied on an existing BT phone line, supplied web-space, pop3 e-mail accounts and domain control.

After discussions, it was decided that a database driven site suited their needs best. Then as products changed, or the range expanded modifications could be made with the minimum of disruption. We came to a suitable database design, and then created a relatively small number of pages which would form the site.
At the last count, Google was caching over 160 pages from the eleven basic pages that control the site!

With search engines in mind, we then looked at ways of maximising the opportunities of searchers being able to find headboards galore. No easy feat when the prime keyword is "Headboards" (Google: 28th, Altavista 15th), however we rank well with detailed searches: "six foot headboard" comes top on 'Google', 'Altavista', 'Hotbot' and 'All the Web'. "mail order headboards" puts us at the top on Google as does "kingsize headboards".
